I don't see any reason not to get the ball rolling on fall right now. As I've said before Iowa State would like to host this at our on campus field, not on campus like the purdue field is, but like right next to the baseball field and the cross country track. Being as we're a wholesaler we can get paint for the event cheaper than you've seen at any event but nationals, say under $50 easy. As far as entry fee I'll talk to some of the local teams and find out what they charge to judge events. I'd think we could get them to do it for under $100. These are just estimates though and I'd like to see what everybody that's interested in hosting this can come up with and we'll go with the best deal. Like Raehl said USAFA has to go through a lot of red tape to get to an event so lets get this thing planned out before the end of this semester and accually have an event planned out before hand unlike every other college regional.
I think that ISU should host the FALL GPIC. We are the most centrally located school. and our field is by far going to be the easiest to find.. and cheapest...Plus it's just 3 blocks from my house. I am sure we could pull it off for much cheaper than any other school.I think we could also get the best Tournout for any GPIC ever to be held... You have the 4 illinois schools no more than 5 hours away.. minnesota state mankato .. Is fairly close, NWMSU and truman state are within 3. Unl is about 3.5. USAFA is about 2.5. With all of those potential schools ISU is obviously the best choice for a HOST. Plus i am sure there are more out there that i missed.. Damn it why do i always agree with mike.. it's going to begin to look like he is the president and not me...
Well, I'm not sure how central ISU is to the GPIC... I know USAFA has trouble if they have to go farther than Nebraska, but that's probably something ot talk to them about.
Yeah I realize we aren't the most central location but I think we can be the cheapest. If we were going to go with the most central location then we should look at fields around the KC area. Not to sound like a jerk to the air force guys but when we had the tournament at K-State they were still 6 hours away. That's central in terms us ISU and the air force sure but they're kind of an out lying team. It's like us asking MICT to be moved to eastern Ill, we're kind of out of the region I think if we make it cool but that's not the core of the conference. We should put it where we can accomidate the most teams not just for the benifit of one. Like I said before lets get everybody that's interested in hosting it to figure out a rough estimate on pricing and go with the best opion from there. I'd like to see the air force make it for sure, but they're a long ways away.
Yeah, but Iowa State *ISN'T* central. You're way on the eastern edge. That would be like moving the MICT to Iowa. (It currently *IS* in eastern IL - both times last year, and Purdue ain't that far from it.)
Iowa State is less than 4 hours from the NLIC, 5-6 from MICT, and putting another conference champs within 4-6 hours of two other conferences is silly. Keep it west where it can reach out to more western schools.
I think the answer here may be a GPIC in Nebraska or KS and an Iowa State Open earlier in the season at Iowa State.
That you Chris... and on that note, we cue the music "Ya... for Nebraska!" (Nate does his happy dance... turns around... and is suddenly serious...). But on a more serious note... who would come if we had it in Lincoln? I don't want to step on anyone's toes and have Iowa State mad at us (heck... I think one of their teams isn't real happy with us right now anyway.). I would be more then happy to host here in Lincoln... but let me know who is unhappy about that idea. UNL is new to the NCPA and I don't want to make our first impression a bad one.
Somebody mad at you? That's news to me, I don't think anybody here at ISU has anything against you except that you go to school in Lincoln but we can ignore that I think. Lets get some rough estimates on what it would cost for people that do want to hold it at their fields. Hell right now the higher ups are just sitting on us right now for one reason or another and won't really tell us why. We should be ready to go play at our field by the end of the semester. But should ofs and could ofs do happen so you guys at UNL and NWMSU should look into hosting it again, except for the refs being jerks the field that hosted this year was fine. I just think we should "shop around" and see where we could get the most people to show up at.
I agree the event should not be held at any of the extreme edges of the region. That was one of the primary reasons the GPICT was started back in 2001 by the members of K-State and why Iowa State and Air Force supported it from the start. Iowa State was all for making it centralized since we did not want to have to drive 10 hours east when schools from Ohio won the MICT.
Air: Co2 and HPA up to 4500 is no problem (we will have A LOT of nitrogen on hand so it will also be "clean" air).
Paint maker: Who knows... the local field has had everything from Daiblo to Kick'n to whatever.
Paint Prices: I would guess on haveing two grades of paint there rec/basic stuff for $50 or 55 and tournanment/"the good stuff" for $60 or $65.
Location:We are just off of Hwy 77 which is just off of I-80 (and if you can't find I-80 you got other problems). If you are coming in from the south or north (which most of you would be) I-29 connects to Lincoln via Hwy 2 and Hwy 2 leads straight to Hwy 77 and it is a cake walk, compaired to finding Big Sky, from there. There are 3 fields we could use NONE of which is a giant mud hole. No rocks, no mud holes, no pokey-thingys... just nice grassy fields and the beautiful Nebraska countryside (Beans and corn for the most part).
Food: We will have consessions (of course), but Crete and Lincoln both are only 15 miles away and just down the road in Sprague (don't try to find it on the map... it is a poe-dunk town) there is bar that has one of the best hamburgers on the face of the earth (I'm not kidding... I have eaten at some nice places too; The Black Angus, Laslo's, Mc Donalds... etc.).
Hotels/Motels: I am calling folks now for prices... but if you have to stay over night we have A LOT of options (Super 8, Motel 6, Red Roof Inn... for the cheap side. Embassy Suites, The Cornhusker, Holiday Inn Express for the more expensive side of things. There are other options... I'll let you know what I find out later.)
Lets see what NWMSU comes up with and I still need to talk to a guy about his team reffing. The Reffing is what's going to Cost money for entry. Beyond that we don't really have any costs for doing this. The way I figure it we can either do free entry and charge more for paint or we can charge Low entry and low paint prices. I need to check with my guys that I was going to have ref first before I can shoot you guys an estimate.
Ok... I have a question. Who is in the GPIC? Are their certain schools who fall in to this due to geographic location... or what? Who is all associated with the GPIC? I would just like a show of hands. I know Iowa State, USAF, NWMSU, K-State, Missou are in it. But who else is out there with a club and a team? As for the Fall GPIC question... If we have it in Lincoln, cool. If we have it at Iowa State, cool. Either way, it is a short drive for us. But I would like to lay claim to the 20th of September for UNL. Our tournament, our field, that day. If we get choosen for the Fall GPIC, cool. If we don't... we can be the Huskerland Open. Either way I would like that date. If Iowa is choosen for the GPIC... We will be there. I support NCPA events whenever and whereever I can. The reason I am choosing that date has to due with our home field's avaliablity and the significants of that date to us and our home field (we are likely to have more help on that day). I am NOT trying to step on anyone's toes... I just want to get it out that if we have a tournament next fall that will be our weekend. Peace
You wouldnt be stepping on our toes.. I think that it is clear that chris wouldn't like Iowa State to hold the GPIC Event. So I think We should hold an open event.. Maybe on Oct4 two weeks after your date.. That isnt a set in stone date.. and i am not speaking for my club at the moment but just my personal thoughts.. I dunno i am tired.. Dont worry you are going to make us mad.. Well unless you beat us and steal our women
In an ideal world, (hah! ) there'd be an ISU Invite in Sept/Oct and the GPIC in Oct/Nov. I can't say I'd exactly complain about a Nebraska Open in Sept and a GPIC on campus at ISU later. On-campus good, and to me it makes more sense to put the conference championships last in the semester.
i would like to have our event before world cup.. would you be able to go later.. you know never mind i will let chin handle this ... he is the tourney guy anyways
I think we all agree earlier is better (especially with Iowa/Nebraska weather). September 20 is a bit early in the year though. That's normally before our big fall recruitment and I'd like to hold off till around Oct 1 (give or take a few days) It's still pretty warm and before Cup (big plus to me) I would like to see us have a couple events though That'd be great I think. I'll see what I can come up with for some pricing with spring break being last week I didn't get anything like that done. As far as I'm concerned anything under a 6 hour drive is great and I'm sure most people would probably go along with that train of thought. We've got time to work it out though normally these things aren't finallized until like a month in advance so we're way ahead of things as is. We've got time to work this all out.
Hummm... The main reason I wanted Sept 20th is because our local field will/ should be haveing a tournament sometime around then and we might be able to "borrow" a couple of airball fields (more then we might otherwise be able to get our hands on). But... what you say about having the GPIC later in the year sounds right... at least in a perfect world. I don't know. Too much stuff going on right now to think. Tell ya what... we have until when to claim our fall events? July 1st? August 1st? Something like that? I don't know who is having what in the GPIC in fall but UNL wants a tourney. If Iowa wants to have an Open in early fall... cool. But the sooner the better. I have a feeling next fall will get cold fast and stay that way longer (just a feeling). Hence my move on a date closer to the warm summer tempertures. But, at the same time I would like the GPIC to come to Lincoln. So... what would be the soonest people could see having the fall conference tourney? I would like to keep it inside of October if possible... but what do you all think? (to the Iowa guys) Do you guys even have women to steal?
